Lent: Day 2

Yesterday I rushed home from the office to grab my stuff and head to my cake decorating class at Michaels.  It was the first class for this new session “Flower and Cake Design”.  I was in such a hurry and was running late.  Earlier in the day we’d had horrible rain.  I was on the phone at one point and had to stop and look around to see if it was raining IN my office.  It was raining so hard, I could barely see across Ridge Road to the other side outside.

So I was rushing along to home, ran inside for just a second,  and then jumped back in my car with my stuff and headed down Tryon Road.  The sky looked eery from the thick gray clouds that appeared to be the back edge of the front that came through during the day.  They were so dark and thick, with many layers of fluff.  And they were Silver-edged.  These clouds had a beautiful silver lining as far as I could see.  I tried snapping a picture at the stoplight with my phone, but it didn’t turn out.  As I kept driving, I was then able to see the sunset appearing from out underneath the clouds.  The silver lining, dark clouds, and a beautiful sky underneath. It was truly magnificent to behold.

I turned off the radio and drove the rest of the way in silence just thinking.  Sometimes life gives us difficulties and trials, just like the storm.  But there are “silver-linings” out there or at least moments of clarity and respite from the problems.  And through it all, we know Easter’s coming.  Easter is a time of joy and celebration, sweetened by the trials and journey of Lent.  Easter, it seems, doesn’t mean as much if we overlook the Lenten Journey.  Sure, Jesus is alive and that doesn’t change.  But the time of reflection that is this season makes Easter mean more to me each year.  Just like the sunset shone more brightly and the silver lining stood out more against the dark gray clouds.  [I really do wish that photo had turned out. Oh well.]
