Today when I got home from church this afternoon after a meeting, Steve had a show cued up on the DVR on TV and said I needed to see it. We record Conan, and he was watching a few older episodes this afternoon and found this segment that is a MUST SEE!
Pee Wee Herman was a guest on Conan on Ash Wednesday this week (3/9/11). He tells the “History of Ash Wednesday” staring Conan as Jesus. There is a grain of truth in there, but I’m not quite sure where, lol. It’s mocking, its sacrilegious, it’s hilarious, and I realized I had to post it and share. Part of the story comes from Matthew 4:1-11. Other parts are a conglomerate of many different things! CHECK IT OUT! It starts at about 4:50 into the video.
I can’t get the video to embed here, so go to this link to see it [Warning–not for the easily offended]:

[SPOILER ALERT!!]
I love how it ends with everyone sitting around the table singing together “Amazing Grace”. I love how the folks gathered around the table represent the margins (those not normally included). Granted they are silly, but didn’t it stop and make you think. In fact the table reminded me a lot of the story where Jesus is eating with the tax collectors and sinners… this time they just happen to be Pirates and Frankenstein. Would they have been welcome at Jesus’ table? I bet so! Who else is welcome at Jesus’ table that we won’t invite to our own? Now that’s a tough, holy question!
